War Machine ( James “Rhodey” Rhodes)
James “Rhodey” Rhodes is Tony Stark’s personal pilot and one of the playboy’s oldest friends. Rhodey has often donned the Iron Man mantle when the burden has been too much for his friend, but has also established his own identity as the War Machine and Iron Patriot.
Lieutenant Colonel James Rhodes is War Machine, a living symbol of cutting edge tech and mechanized warfare. When not in his armored suit, ‘Rhodey’ is a decorated Marine and Tony Stark’s closest confidant- he’s also been an Avenger and Iron Man for the United States Military.
James Rhodes was created by Bob Layton and David Michelinie and first appeared in Iron Man Vol.1 issue 118 (1979). The War Machine armor first appeared in a cameo in Iron Man Vol.1 issue 281 and fully in Iron Man Vol. 1 issue 282. James Rhodes first became War Machine in Iron Man Vol.1 issue 284.
