Image Comics’ Eco-Horror Hit ‘Of the Earth’ Sells Out – Rushed to Second Printing

The comic book industry has a new hit on its hands, and it is striking oil in the best way possible. Of the Earth #1, the new neo-noir-tinged eco-horror series from industry legends, has officially sold out at the distributor level. Thanks to escalating reorder activity from retailers across the country, Image Comics is rushing the debut issue back to the press for a second printing this week.

If you have been waiting to jump into this eerie new world, now is the time to visit your local shop. To make sure you keep your pull list stocked with the biggest hits of the summer, you can always check out our latest New Comics listings to see what else is arriving this month.

A Powerhouse Creative Team

This series marks a major moment for comic fans, as it features the return of artist Charlie Adlard (The Walking Dead, Heretic) to single-issue storytelling. Adlard is joined by co-writers Chris Condon (That Texas Blood) and Andrew Ehrich, with colors by Pip Martin, letters by Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, and design by Mike Tivey.

Adlard’s collaboration with Robert Kirkman on The Walking Dead redefined horror in the medium, and his return to single-issue monthly work is a massive event for collectors. “It’s incredible to see the reaction the book is getting from reviewers and readers,” said Chris Condon regarding the sell-out. “I’m proud of the book and I’m proud of each of my collaborators—Charlie, Andrew, Pip, Hassan, and Michael—who helped bring this gritty idea to life.”

The Terror of Solitude, Texas

Of the Earth trades urban decay for a different kind of darkness. The story follows Tabitha “Tabby” Black as she flees a sordid life in the city, seeking the quiet comfort of her hometown, Solitude, Texas. She returns to her Gramma’s home, looking for safety and familiar memories.

However, Solitude isn’t the sanctuary she remembers. The town has changed, and beneath the surface, something is deeply, dangerously wrong. As the title suggests, the horror is tied to the land itself, blending environmental dread with an intense noir atmosphere. Adlard has been vocal about the creative process, recently discussing the development of the series on the Let’s Talk Comics podcast. His art, combined with Condon’s expertise in crafting tense, character-driven scripts, has created a reading experience that is difficult to put down.
