Vampire Survivors #1: Titan Comics Expands the BAFTA-Winning Indie Hit Into a New Comic Series

Vampire Survivors is leveling up from screen to comic shops.

Titan Comics and poncle are bringing the monster-slaying, garlic-powered chaos of the BAFTA-winning indie game to comics with Vampire Survivors #1, launching in comic shops on September 9, 2026. The new series will run for four issues, with a collected graphic novel edition planned for March 2027.

Written by David Hazan, co-creator of Nottingham, and illustrated by Jimmy Kucaj, with additional art by Jão Canola, Vampire Survivors #1 looks ready to give fans a deeper look at the strange lore, cursed realms, monster hordes, and bizarre humor that made the game such a breakout phenomenon.

Vampire Survivors Comes to Comics

Since its breakout debut in 2021, Vampire Survivors has become one of the biggest indie game success stories of the decade.

The game won Best Game and Best Game Design at the 2023 BAFTAs, followed by Best Evolving Game in 2025. Now, Titan Comics is expanding that world into a new comic book series built around the game’s wild mix of monsters, mystery, survival, absurdity, and hidden lore.

The original game throws players into an endless fight against waves of creatures summoned by the evil Bisconte Draculó. The mission is simple: survive as long as possible while monsters swarm from every direction.

The comic takes that idea and opens it up into a larger story.

Familiar survivors will venture through cursed locations, including an endless library, a corrupted dairy plant, and a mad forest. Along the way, they will uncover hidden histories and secrets that were never supposed to be found.

That makes this more than a straight adaptation.

This is Titan Comics building out the mythology behind the chaos.

What Is Vampire Survivors #1 About?

Vampire Survivors #1 follows the Belpaese siblings as they are tasked with clearing out monsters.

But things get far more dangerous when Imelda Belpaese encounters The Trickster, an ancient evil so horrific that it leaves destruction in its wake. The worst part? The Trickster appears to be invisible to everyone except Imelda.

That gives the first issue a strong psychological hook.

Imelda is already dealing with monsters, family tension, and pressure from the rival Ladonna family. Now she has something stalking her, breaking down her reality, and threatening everything precious to her.

That is a smart way to bring Vampire Survivors into comics.

The game is known for overwhelming action and absurd escalation, but the comic has room to focus on character, paranoia, and the darker side of survival.

Why New Readers Should Pick Up Vampire Survivors #1

New readers should pay attention to Vampire Survivors #1 because this looks like a fun, accessible first issue with a clear hook.

You do not need to be a master of the game to understand the appeal.

There are monsters.

There is magic.

There are knives, whips, garlic, cursed locations, rival families, strange evil forces, and survivors trying to stay alive long enough to uncover the truth.

That is a strong comic book setup.

For longtime fans of the game, the big draw is lore. Vampire Survivors has always been packed with weird names, odd details, strange locations, and mysterious background pieces. This comic gives fans a chance to see that world expanded through story, dialogue, and full comic book visuals.

For new fans, it works as a monster-fighting adventure with horror-comedy energy and retro video game DNA.

David Hazan and Jimmy Kucaj Bring the Game to Life

Writer David Hazan is a strong choice for this adaptation. His work on Nottingham showed a sharp ability to rework familiar genre material into something darker, stranger, and more layered.

That skill should fit Vampire Survivors well.

This is not a standard fantasy setting. It is a weird survival nightmare full of escalating monsters and absurd weapons. Hazan’s job is to make that chaos feel like a story while still keeping the strange humor intact.

Artist Jimmy Kucaj also feels like a natural fit. Kucaj has spoken about growing up with retro video games and imagining what those pixel worlds would look like in full detail. That is exactly the assignment here: take a game known for simple visuals and transform it into expressive, full-page comic book action.

The result should be familiar enough for fans and fresh enough for new readers.

Titan Comics Continues Its Video Game Comics Line

Vampire Survivors #1 also continues Titan Comics’ strong run of video game adaptations.

Titan has published comics based on major gaming properties including Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Little Nightmares, RuneScape, and Dead by Daylight. That makes Vampire Survivors a smart addition to the publisher’s lineup.

This is a game with a huge fanbase, a memorable identity, and enough strange lore to support a comic series.

The best video game comics are not just retellings. They give fans something new while respecting what made the game work in the first place.

That is what Vampire Survivors #1 appears ready to do.

Final Thoughts: Vampire Survivors Looks Ready to Survive Comics

Vampire Survivors #1 has the right ingredients for a strong video game comic adaptation.

The game already has a simple but addictive hook: survive the monsters. The comic adds character, mystery, cursed realms, family tension, and an ancient evil targeting Imelda Belpaese’s mind.

That gives the series a reason to exist beyond brand recognition.

Fans get more lore.

New readers get a monster-packed first issue.

Collectors get several cover options.

And Titan Comics gets another video game property with serious cult appeal.

Vampire Survivors #1 arrives in comic shops on September 9, 2026.
